Catering for visiting schools and groups

Education, Groups and Gaelic Medium

At Whitewave we are passionate about outdoor learning and offer a flexible approach to cater for visiting schools and groups to fit curriculum and budget requirements.

This can be from a fully catered and programmed experience to a self catering self programming course or holiday.

Programmed Groups

Specialist packages in outdoor, environmental, cultural and / or personal developmental education to compliment your own studies. Combining outdoor experience with language and culture of north Skye, we always try and offer a ‘sense of place’ in everything we do. We try and make programmes flexible to make the best use of the weather and depending on group sizes will often split groups and rotate activities.

Gaelic Medium

Whitewave is committed to the development of Gaelic and with arrangement can offer group programmes through the medium of Gaelic.

As there are very few qualified outdoor instructors with Gaelic quite often this will necessitate using a Gaelic speaking leader with experience in an activity, overseen by an English speaking instructor, this will allow us to comply with our operating and safety procedures.

Self Programming Groups

The North end of Skye Is a fantastic place to run field study courses in a variety of disciplines and interests.

1. Archaeology – Within a mile radius of whitewave are hut circles, a souterraine, duns, St Columba’s monastery, and cleared villages.

2. Geology – “The most extensive landslip in northern Europe”, and superb examples of basalt lava flows, and intrusions. The Jurassic slates and sandstones beneath the basalt are exposed on the east-side of Trotternish, and well known for fossils.

3. Environmental Studies – The natural history of Skye is outstanding, from the sea-shore to the hill tops there is a wealth of interest from the pure sciences, through to land management, and social influences.

4. Culture & History – There is a wealth of resources for any group at any level and we can offer some activities through the medium of Gaelic. We specialise in trying to facilitate an experience in local sense of place.
